Food with hemp
“Hemp” is commonly used to refer to the variety of Cannabis sativa L. cultivated for industrial purposes, legally allowed to be grown as it does not exceed the limits on tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) content of 0.3% established by the European Union, in Regulation (EU) 2021/2115.
Today, there is a history of safe and significant consumption of foods or food products derived from hemp seeds, such as the seeds themselves, hemp seed oil or ground hemp seed, water infusion with hemp leaves, etc. Thus, these foods or food products can be marketed within the European Union, since they have a history of safe and significant consumption.
For their part, cannabinoids (CBD, CBDA, etc.) used widely on their own or to be added to an oil, for example, are considered novel foods and thus fall under the scope of Regulation (EU) 2015/2283.
Legal 4.20 Lawyers submit for our Clients, prior to their commercialization of novel foods, applications to the European Commission in accordance with the regulatory procedure.
